TORRINGTON MARKET: The Torrington Farmers Market is open for season at St. Paul’s Church on Charles Street, Torrington, Tuesdays from 3-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and will continue weekly through October. Local farmers will have fresh produce, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, soaps, crafts, and other seasonal items for sale. LITCHFIELD HILLS AUDUBON: The Litchfield Hills Audubon Society will take a trip to Naumkeag House and Gardens in Stockbridge, MA., Friday, Sept. 21. HEALTHY AGING FAIR: The Winsted Senior Center will host a Healthy Aging Fair, Wednesday, Sept. 19, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Valerie Manor is providing bag lunches.
EARTH FILM SERIES: Church of Christ Congregational in Goshen is launching its new season of the Earth Film Series Sept. 19, 6:30 p.m., showing the documentary “Earthship,” which explores an experiment in New Mexico that attempts to imagine a sustainable society. The Earth Film Series is a project of the 4/1 Earth Ministry of the church. Films range in topics from water to soil to climate and include films on children experiencing nature and on celebrated environmentalists Rachel Carson and Aldo Leopold. YIZKOR MEMORIAL SERVICE: On Yom Kippur, the day when Jewish community across the world unite in atonement and forgiveness, Chabad Lubavitch of Northwest CT will hold a “Yizkor” memorial service, during Yom Kippur prayers, at Chabad Community House, 85 West Street. Litchfield. Rabbi Joseph Eisenbach will lead the service Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. Recited by community members who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, spouse or child, Yizkor gives space to remember one's loved ones communally on a day that emphasizes communal unity and personal growth. TALK: Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Urologist Dr. James Devanney will give a free presentation “Erectile Dysfunction: Treatment Options” on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 6 p.m.. in the Conference Hall located in the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Memorial Building, 540 Litchfield Street in Torrington. BEREAVEMENT PROGRAM: Goshen Bereavement Program- Goshen Community Care & Hospice will host a 6-week Bereavement program for all individuals living in the Northwest corner. “A Journey from Grief to Healing & Hope will be led by facilitator, Karen Jax Giarnese, R.N., starting Sept. 19-Oct. 24, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, Rt 63 North, Goshen. CANDIDATES FORUM: Connecticut Academy For The Arts (CAFTA) Prospect Street, Torrington, is hosting a candidates forum for people running for seats in the legislature and the Senate, Sept. 19, 6-9 p.m. The forum will be digitally videotaped and made available to the press, both parties and to all participants. MONTHLY CHURCH DINNER: The Winsted United Methodist Church will hold its monthly diner, Sept. 29, 6 p.m. at the church hall. Cost is $11 adults, $6 for children under 12. MILTON TAG, BAKE SALE: Milton Congregational Church of Litchfield will hold its annual tag and bake sale Sept. 21-22, 9 a.m-3 p.m. and Sept.23, 12-3 p.m. at the church, 548 Milton Road, Milton Center, off Route 202 in Litchfield. The tag sale will offer everything from furniture to antiques, jewelry to linens, books to lamps, tools to toys. Church ladies will sell their famous homemade jams, jellies, pickles, relish, and baked goods. Door prizes feature items donated by local area merchants. This year there are a cord of firewood from each of two donors. A “Seasonal Celebration” room will have decorations for any occasion. Cash or checks are accepted. Don’t forget to have a gourmet hot dog from Salty Dog.
STAR PARTY: The monthly Litchfield Hills Astronomical Society’s Star Party at White Memorial Consevation Center, Lichfield, will be held Sept. 21. Star gazing only at 8 p.m. Meet at the Observatory in the Sawmill Field. The event is free; donations will be accepted for programming expenses.
