- STAFF REPORTS

WINSTED — A Torrington man is facing burglary charges for the second time in four days.

Richard Lacasse, 30, of High Street, was charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree attempted larceny.

Police said he is accused of entering a home on High Street. The homeowner told police she had heard the front door slamming shut and never realized someone had been at the door or inside. No damage was discovered and no items were taken, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the area just after 11 a.m. Sunday for a report of a suspicious person seen fleeing from the front porch of a home, police said. While officers were en route to the scene, dispatch provided a description of the suspect, which was similar to the description provided of a burglary suspect from four days earlier, officers said.

A neighbor who saw the suspicious man advised police that he was on the front porch and suddenly fled toward Elm Street. Police found him near Second Congregational Church.

Lacasse was taken to Winchester Police Headquarters and held in lieu of $20,000 bond. He was due to appear in Superior Court in Torrington on Monday.

Lacasse, who has a lengthy criminal history, was arrested in Winsted on Sept. 19 and charged with thirddegree burglary and sixthdegree attempted larceny for his alleged involvement in a burglary on Walnut Street.

Lacasse’s criminal history dates to 2009, and he has been convicted of burglary, breach of peace, probation violation, escape from custody, interfering with police and possession of controlled substances.
