Jaguars sign RB Jamaal Charles
The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed former Kansas City Chiefs running back
Jamaal Charles to help during Leonard Fournette's absence. The 31-year-old Charles worked out for the team in the morning and signed a one-year contract in the afternoon. The Jaguars lost third-string running back
Corey Grant for the season and expect to be without Fournette for several more weeks . ... The Titans waived wide receiver Nick Williams after he dropped a potential touchdown pass in a 13-12 loss to the Bills. The Titans have promoted linebacker
Robert Spillane from the practice squad while waiving both Williams and quarterback Austin Davis . ... The Chiefs placed right guard
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and safety Armani Watts on injured reserve and signed outside linebacker Frank Zombo to provide depth at that depleted position. Duvernay-Tardif broke a bone in his left leg with a few minutes left in Sunday's victory over Jacksonville . ... The Bills signed quarterback Derek Anderson to add veteran experience and have him serve as a mentor for rookie starter Josh Allen . ... Alex Spanos, who used his fortune from construction and real estate to buy the Chargers in 1984, has died. He was 95 . ... George Taliaferro, the Indiana running back who became the first black player drafted by an NFL team, has died at 91. The Chicago Bears selected him in the 13th round in 1949. Taliaferro had signed a week before with the Los Angeles Dons of a rival league. He kept his promise to play for the Dons but later played in the NFL when the two merged.
