Little Free Library welcomed to City Hall
Altrusa International chapter members present mini-lending library box to mayor
TORRINGTON — Altrusa International of Litchfield County, in partnership with Little Free Library, recently presented a freestanding library to the city of Torrington.
The Little Free Library, a free book exchange, is located at Torrington City Hall by the side entrance. Residents are encouraged to take a book and/or donate a book.
Stephen Comeau, the son of an Altrusan and a former Torrington resident, built the library.
Through Little Free Libraries, millions of books are exchanged each year, increasing access to books for readers of all ages and backgrounds. There are more than 75,000 registered Little Free Library book-sharing boxes in 88 countries worldwide. Learn more at littlefreelibrary.org.
Altrusa is an international organization of professional women committed to volunteering in their communities. Literacy is a top priority.
“Our club offers an opportunity to make a real difference in Litchfield County,” said member Barbara Goelz-Tamsin. “We undertake a variety of service, literacy, and fundraising projects each year. We are always seeking new volunteers to join our organization. Our members are from varying occupations and lifestyles, all sharing an interest in community service and enjoying the friendship, fun and satisfaction that comes from working together for the benefit of others.”
