DAR to join Wreaths Across America

-

WINSTED — The BrooksGreen Woods Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is supporting the Wreaths Across American program and will hold a wreath laying ceremony to honor our country’s veterans. The Chapter will hold the wreath laying ceremony at the Forest View Cemetery, Rowley Street, Winsted, 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. Members will gather at the flagpole inside the main gate, and public is encouraged to attend.

This is the seventh year that the Brooks-Green Woods Chapter has participated with Wreaths Across American and held a wreath laying ceremony. The Wreaths Across America program was started in 1992 by Morrill Worcester, owner of the Worcester Wreath Company in Harrington, Maine. In 1992, Worcester realized his success was due in large part to the values of this nation and the Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our Country.

Worcester, working with Maine Senator Olympia Snowe made arrangements for wreaths to be placed at Arlington. The project received national attention in 2005 when a photo of the headstones with Worcester’s wreaths circulated on the internet.

Since then, the wreath laying honor has spread to many additional locations across the country, and in 2010 Wreaths Across America’s network laid over 220,000 memorial wreaths at 545 locations. Their mission is Remember, Honor, Teach. Additional information can be found at https://wreathsacrossamerica.org
