The Litchfield Jazz Camp is offering some exciting perks to students who register before Jan. 31. Camp sessions run from June 30 to July 27, and places are still available for all sessions.

All who sign up by Jan. 31 and pay the deposit will receive a $75 discount and be entered to win a free lesson.

Those who pay in full by Jan. 31 get a free lesson with one of the camp’s faculty, as well as an additional $75 rebate and be entered to win an Apple iPad.

Early registrant­s also have the chance to win a $1,000 cash prize. Parents, teachers and students are invited to get in on the cash prize drawing.

Larger groups who register together can receive discounts of as much as 20 percent. Applicants should reach out to Ellie at 860361-6285 for details.

Litchfield Jazz Camp at the Gunnery in Washington serves instrument­alists and vocalists, ages 13 and up. They hail from New England, more than 30 states and abroad. Weekly attendance ranges from 60 to 100 with up to 24 combos working simultaneo­usly. Past Litchfield Campers have gone on to top colleges, with many winning scholarshi­ps and awards, competitio­ns, and critic’s polls. Those who have become profession­als appear today at famed jazz clubs and festivals around the world, and many return to teach at Litchfield and perform at the annual Litchfield Jazz Festival.

Litchfield Jazz Camp offers an outstandin­g faculty. Saxophonis­t Don Brade, camp music director for the past 22 years, heads a team of instructor­s that includes drummer and Jazz Journalist­s’ Associatio­n award-winner Matt Wilson; bassist and 20year member of the McCoyTyner Trio, Avery Sharpe; bassist/vocalist and 10-year member of the Les Paul Trio, Nicki Parrott; drummer and former member of the Billy Taylor Trio, Steve Johns; guitarist and former member of the Stanley Turrentine band, Dave Stryker; trumpeter and member of the Michael Buble band, Jean Caze; pianist and member of the Bad Plus, Orrin Evans; and other award winners, including pianist Carmen Staaf, vocalists Nicole Zuraitis and Alina Engibarian, and saxophonis­t Jeff Lederer. Campers may register for as many as four weeks. Both day and residentia­l students are welcome. Students with demonstrat­ed financial need may apply for scholarshi­p support. Campers enjoy faculty concerts nightly and have multiple opportunit­ies to perform themselves, capped off by an invitation to play at the annual Litchfield Jazz Festival, this year July 26 – 28.
