SCREENINGS CAN HELP
The Torrington Lions Club recently completed eye screenings at Forbes School, St.Peter-St.Francis School and Torrington Christian Academy, examining the eyes of 393 children using the Welch Allyn Spot screening machine. Members record the child’s last name and age and prints a report, which indicates pass or fail for the most common vision issues, allowing the nurse to refer the results to parents for a followup exam with an eye doctor. Club members encourage all parents to please take advantage of these screenings, which are free. Members have heard that when a referral is suggested, the child was prescribed glasses, and made a significant improvement of their grades and attitudes. The Lions will be providing additional screening at Vogel-Wetmore School during the last two weeks of February.
