Hospital breaks ground on new health center
TORRINGTON — Charlotte Hungerford Hospital broke ground Saturday for its new health facility, which will be located at the corner of routes 8 and 44 in Winsted. The building is scheduled to open in 2020.
All of the services now offered by CHH at the Winsted Health Center at 115 Spencer St. will move to the new building.
When completed, the new facility will feature a 12-hourper-day emergency department with full laboratory support, diagnostic imaging, mammography, behavioral health, blood draw, primary and specialty care, and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services, and a sleep center. The property will also have a LIFE STAR helicopter landing pad.
Winsted is the second-largest community in Charlotte Hungerford’s service area. The hospital has had a long-standing commitment to provide medical services to the Winsted area.
“This is an important commitment to those we serve — and a level of healthcare investment the Winsted area has not seen in decades,” said Dan McIntyre, Hartford Health Care’s senior vice president of the Northwest Region and CHH president.
“We are so pleased to build this world-class facility to grow quality health care services for the people of northwest Connecticut. It’s all part of our goal to help promote and expand medical care, service access, patient experience, and advanced technology at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and its affiliated service providers.” said Karen Goyette, senior vice president for strategy and system integration at HHC.
The proximity of the new medical services building to the new Northwestern Connecticut Community College Health Science Center presents collaborative opportunities between CHH and health care programs at the college, officials said.
When complete, the facility would be the latest addition to Hartford HealthCare’s growing number of outpatient locations across the state.
