- By Emily M. Olson

NEW HARTFORD — After 15 years in business, Passiflora, a tea room and herbal shop, is closing its doors.

Owner Karen Tyson wrote a heartfelt message on her blog explaining her decision to close the shop. Primarily, her goal is to pursue a career in naturopathic medicine, she said.

She also promised customers that she’s continuing to sell her special tea blends online, taking special food orders, and offering herbal and nutritional advice from her home.

“It is with great sadness, but also great hope for the next chapter, that I have decided to close Passiflora’s cafe location in New Hart

ford at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 23,” Tyson wrote. “I never realized when I opened 15 years ago, that I wasn’t just building a business, I was building a life. My family and I have been so blessed to meet and serve each of you ...”

“Passiflora has been one of the best experiences of my life, thanks to you,” Tyson wrote, referring to her faithful customers. “However, I need time and space to jump start my next direction, to become a doctor of naturopathic medicine, focusing on teaching people about their body’s

native intelligence to be well.”

Tyson plans to have gatherings at her home in the future.

“If you have loved this place, I wish for you to share your pictures or comments on our Facebook page or Instagram or write me an email at passifloratearoom@gmail.com,” she wrote.

“I am not leaving this community. I am just morphing Passiflora to its next phase that honors myself, and my family’s needs at this time,” Tyson wrote. Thank you for a wonderful 15 years. It has been an honor. Be well my dear friends and stay in touch.”
