WEST CORNWALL — The Little Guild of St. Francis, which rescues, loves and heals homeless dogs and cats and finds them the healthy families they deserve, is holding the Great Country Mutt Show on Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Cornwall Green. There is no admission charge or cost to enter a dog in the Mutt Show, and the event is open to all dogs, including purebreds.

Mutt Show categories include best lap dog over 40 pounds, waggiest tail, longest ears, shortest ears, easiest carry-on, best trick (any trick), best powder puff, sweetest pair, dog that looks most like its owner and most unidentifiable mix. Judges will include Bunny Williams and Sharon Playhouse Managing Director and Artistic Director Robert Levinstein and Alan M-L Wager.

Owners may register their dogs at greatcountrymuttshow.com or onsite at the event. All dogs must be on a leash.

While dogs are taking the ring to compete, there will be live music provided by the Joint Chiefs, farmer’s market vendors and food provided by Big Green Eggs and Hamburgers, and Warren General Store. Other local businesses represented will include Pergola, Privet House, and the Wish House. Dog and entertaining books will also be on sale.

“The day will be a community celebration of dogs of all shapes, sizes and origins. The Mutt Show will also raise awareness of the life-changing work that the Little Guild performs every day. As we speak, our kennels are packed with an assortment of some of the greatest mutts you could imagine, waiting for homes. Hopefully, the day will inspire some adopters to seek them out,” said Abigail Cusick, Little Guild executive director.

The Mutt Show was preceded by a benefit dinner on Friday, hosted by Greg and Natalie Randall in their spectacular RT Facts Gallery in Kent.

The Little Guild of St. Francis will next year celebrate 60 years as the largest rescue in the greater northwest Connecticut region. The Little Guild provides adoption, advocacy and education for both animals and adopters, and assists the broader community with such activities as no-cost vaccine clinics, a free pet food pantry, children’s programs, and training classes.
