Weekend in Norfolk returns Aug. 24

NORFOLK — Weekend in Norfolk, the town’s fourth annual threeday summer festival, recently released its event schedule for Aug. 24, and it is now available at weekendinn­orfolk.org The event features more than 80 events — mostly free — that Norfolk’s organizati­ons, businesses and individual­s are putting on to welcome visitors.

On Friday, two churches are offering afternoon tours of their stained glass windows. Couples can be married or renew their vows on the village green, by appointmen­t. Artisan demos, a hiking contest and the opening reception for the Norfolk Artists & Friends 11th annual exhibition, plus concerts at Infinity Hall and the Yale Music Shed are also planned.

Saturday, the day offers art events, a tour of Norfolk’s industrial past and more music, including a free concert at the Yale Music Shed and live outdoor performanc­es sponsored by Infinity Music Hall. The Norfolk farmers market will have a variety of special events including chef demonstrat­ions, live music and several activities especially for children. Other highlights for children include a Chicken Stampin’ workshop and water soccer played with fire hoses. The evening will conclude with hors d’oeuvres and music at the Manor House Inn, a family fun night complete with outdoor movie, and performanc­es at Infinity Hall and the Music Shed.

Sunday offers more tours including Whitehouse, the former Stoeckel mansion, samples of a getaway day at the Mountain View Green Retreat, more stained glass window viewings, an open house at the country club featuring its famed 9hole golf course, three farm open houses, art workshops, a special concert for kids, fly tying and casting on the green, outdoor music, a 5K trail run, a hotdog eating contest and other activties..

A open house at the Blackberry River Inn, photograph­y exhibition at the historical society museum, an ice cream social, silent movies with live accompanim­ent are also planned, and many events are multiday affairs. Visit weekendinn­orfolk.org for all the details.
