Man’s body pulled from river
Police: No foul play suspected at this time
TORRINGTON — The body of a white man was found in the Naugatuck River in Torrington Wednesday, according to city police.
Lt. Bart Barown said police were called about a body around 7:30 a.m. State Police were called to recover the body, which was determined to be of a white male.
Foul play is not suspected in the matter at this time, and there was no visible trauma observed, Barown said.
A neighbor who lives in the area said he called in the discovery of the body, after he saw something unusual when he walked near the river. He said he called police when he saw that there were boots in the water.
“Officers arrived on scene and could see a body partially submerged in the river, about 30 feet off shore,” Barown said.
“Torrington Police Detectives canvassed the area and processed the scene as Avon Police Department assisted with their drone to photo and video up and down the river in the area” where the man’s body was found, Barown said.
The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Barown said.
Barown said the investigation remains open and the man’s name would not be released until a positive identification is made. Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to call the Torrington Police Department 8604892090.
