-

HARWINTON — The Harwinton Democratic Town Committee has set its slate of candidates for the upcoming November municipal election. Although the first selectman’s seat remains unfilled, DTC chairman, Peter Brazaitis, states, “As a minority party, we must stay vigilant and work to ensure our town government is transparent and works for all residents. Harwinton is a unique and beautiful town that deserves representation of the highest quality. Our Board and Commission candidates are willing to commit to serve our community that we all love. The Harwinton Democrats will work hard to ensure everyone’s voice is heard, and that our municipal government acts as a good steward of our money and our future.”

The lineup for the 2019 election includes both some familiar and new names to the Harwinton political arena. Rick Fowler is running for a second term as selectman. For the Board of Finance position, Paul Honig brings a strong financial experience to his position. Darren Frechette is a candidate for Board of Assessment Appeals. Roland Perreault and Debra Friedus are running for Planning Commission. Both currently sit on the commission as alternates.

Diane Moriarty, a newcomer to the Harwinton political scene, is running for the Zoning Commission term that begins in 2020. Joseph Arcuri, a local business owner, is running for the zoning term that begins in 2019. Kevin Case is running for Zoning Commission alternate.

Lynne Steincamp, Ed Moriarty and Robin Ruwet Turpin are all running for Zoning Board of Appeals, hoping to join Peter Brazaitis, who sits on the fivemember board.

Two candidates have been cross endorsed for Board of Education: John Vecchitto, who is registered as unaffiliated, and Scott Ragaglia, a Republican. Vecchitto is a current member of the board, and a former high school principal and Region 10 teacher. Ragaglia is a current and former Region 10 parent.
