McCall residents to take part in monthly paint night
Northwest Connecticut Arts Council
TORRINGTON — The Northwest Connecticut Arts Council and the McCall Center for Behavioral Health is working in partnership to bring a monthly paint night to the women of Hanson House. The seven residents will have the opportunity to spend a few hours painting and creating original artwork.
The Hanson House program is an intermediate residential treatment program staffed by compassionate professionals. The program is designed specifically for women 18 years of age and older who are in active recovery from addiction. With a focus on clinical support and holistic treatment, residents are empowered to heal and continue their recovery in a homelike setting.
“We are so grateful to our friends at the NWCT Arts Council for their partnership in establishing this vital program that will inspire creative expression, healing and growth in our women working on their recovery,” McCal representatives said in a statement.
Steph Burr, outreach manager at the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council, is leading the class.
“This project is something that is very close to our mission at the Arts Council,” Burr said. “We have seen the proof that art is an incredible tool for healing, and we are delighted to be working with McCall to spread the joy of creating art.”
The initiation of the project has been made possible through the Arts Council’s generous donation of staff time and discounted supplies from Jerry’s Artarama in West Hartford. McCall and the Arts Council would welcome donations to help carry the program into 2020.
