President has chance to make a difference

- Joseph Blumberg Branford

Dear President Trump,

We are all aware of your ego, narcissism and pride in what you have accomplished over your lifetime. Indeed, the majority of our citizens are also proud of what they have done in their years. We also admire the way that you are able to say whatever you want to say and get away with it. Most of us wish that we could do the same. From the first day that you took office, you have been telling us that your term in office will be one of the greatest that our country has ever enjoyed and your core believed you. I don’t.

We recognize how you have worked so that history will call you the greatest. In order to accomplish this, you have perfected your ability to lead by insult. No one who has crossed your path has gotten through without a nasty nickname. Liddle, Crooked, Shifty, Sleepy Joe and Hiawatha are just the beginning. Your insults go on forever.

One of your best traits is your ability to totally ignore any evidence that goes against your own beliefs, particularly your discrediting the world’s scientists in regard to climate change. No matter what you are shown, you are able to maintain your position saying that the facts are not true. What I want you to consider is the possibility that you are wrong, in spite of your lack of ability to admit that you have ever made an error. Just think what might happen to your legacy if 50 or 100 years from now, it is proven that your actions have been responsible for vast areas of the world being under water, and people are not able to breathe because of the damage that has been done to the earth because of the overuse of carbon emitting fuels. And all the media throughout the world state that this could have been avoided if President Donald J. Trump had acted in time to save them all. Since he didn’t, the world is doomed. Woe is me!

The assets of the planet are not infinite. Our grandchildren and greatgrandchildren are going to unfortunately have to find out how to get along without fuel oil, gasoline, metals etc. Once more, the world will say that your presidency could have led to further research and development of solar and wind power and renewable powers that we do not understand at this time.

According to the Washington Post, you have told over 12,000 lies since you have been in office, and the number seems to increase daily. All I know is that if, as a child, I had told 1/100 of that number, my mother would have spanked the skin off my bottom.

I must admit that I truly admire the way that you have managed to avoid having your taxes released by saying that they are under audit. It seems that if the president wanted to have this audit completed, he could have ordered it done, and not allow the IRS to take three years to do it. I have heard of no such executive order being issued. Congrats! You have always claimed to have built a great empire. One way to prove it is by releasing your taxes.

Finally, you have done an outstanding job of alienating our international friends and cuddling up to those countries who do not like us. You have snuggled up to Putin and Kim Jongun all to no avail. Kim seems to be increasing his nuclear efforts, rather than cutting back on them. Your action in northern Syria appears to give ISIS the opportunity it has needed to come back to power.

All in all, I wonder and fear how long it will take for the USA to get back to its former position of strength and respect after you leave office.

Yours truly,
