Water main break affects west side
State issues health advisory to boil water while crews work to fix break
TORRINGTON — The state Department of Public Health has issued an advisory for residents to boil water while crews find and fix the break. Once the break is found, the advisory will remain in effect until water samples are found to be safe, the department said Sunday afternoon.
A water main break is affecting westside customers on public water in Torrington, authorities confirmed Sunday.
The water main break is affecting around 3,000 customers, and most of Torrington’s westside is without water, a spokesperson for the state health department said.
Water available for customers at Torrington Water, at 277 Norfolk Road, Torrington, said Av Harris, a communications director for the health department, noting that Litchfield Woods Nursing Home has “alternative sources” of drinking water.
“We have been informed thus far by the Torrington Water Company that the main break somewhere on the West side of Torrington,” said Harris. “It has not yet been found or isolated. Water Company personnel are in the process of isolating the break and will repair it as soon as it is found.”
An operator at the Torrington Water Company said Sunday morning that affected customers will see reduced water pressure to no water coming out of the tap at all.
The public utility company began receiving calls about the water outages before 6 a.m. Sunday morning, according to the operator.
If the problem becomes a citywide issue such as a drop in pressure or water discoloration in unaffected areas, the health department will let the public know as soon as possible, Harris said.
