FOOTBALL: FINE PERFORMANCES / GAMES TO WATCH

We round up top performers from the weekend’s football games and look ahead to next week.

FINE PERFORMANCES

Austin Andersen, St. Luke’s: His 21yard interception return for a touchdown provided the final margin in a 9-0 win over Portsmouth (R.I.) Abbey. He also made seven tackles, six solo.

Sam Attianese, Granby/Canton: Ran for 123 yards and a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass, was in on 12 tackles and recovered two fumbles in a 27-7 victory over Haddam-Killingworth. Anthony Bellizzi, South Windsor: Threw for two touchdowns and ran for two in a 28-14 win over East Hartford.

Jordan Benoit, Hamden Hall: Ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns and the winning touchdown with 14 seconds left as the Hornets beat New Hampton (N.H.) School 34-31.

Aiden Boeshans, Simsbury: Went 14-for-23 for 211 yards and three touchdowns in a 32-0 win over Conard.

Darrell Coombs, Waterbury Career

Academy: Two touchdowns and 117 yards receiving in a 19-17 win over Torrington.

Lucien Dube, Plainfield: Kicked the game-winning field goal in double overtime of a 19-16 win over Bacon Academy.

Jaquan Dufour, Rockville: Caught eight passes for 186 yards and four touchdowns as the Rams won 53-19 at the Coginchaug co-op.

Corey Ford, Platt: Sack on a two-point conversion attempt preserved a 35-33 win over Newington.

Malachi Gatison, Naugatuck: Ran for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a 43-6 win at Oxford.

Shykeem Harmon, Ansonia: Had 130 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries and caught a 30-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring in a 56-26 win over Watertown.

Pearson Hill, Hopkins: Seven receptions for 108 yards, plus 64 yards and two touchdowns rushing in a 30-27 win over Riverdale (N.Y.).

Courtenay Jackson, Windsor: Threw for six touchdowns in a 62-22 win over Farmington.

Raekwon James, Wilby: Scored touchdowns three different ways in a 32-19 win at Derby.

Dillon Kohl, Southington: Ran for 246 yards and three touchdowns as the Blue Knights beat Manchester 44-6.

Drew Kron, Xavier: Ran for two touchdowns and threw the game-winning two-point conversion pass in a 22-21 win over Fairfield Prep.

Izzo Lizardi, Hall: Ran 14 times for 202 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-6 win over New Britain.

Brandon Lombardo, Newtown: Was 7-for-9 for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and ran nine times for 52 yards in Newtown’s 34-24 win at Shelton.

Isiah Lovell, E.O. Smith: Had eight solo tackles, including four sacks, and was in on three other tackles; forced a fumble and recovered a fumble in a 14-6 win over RHAM.

Jalen Madison, Brunswick: Ran for 268 yards and three touchdowns as the Bruins beat Taft 49-28.

Kam Moreno, Maloney: Six catches for 182 yards and four touchdowns in a 51-27 win over Bristol Eastern.

Jon O’Coin, Rockville: Was 12-for-19 for five touchdowns and 241 yards in a 53-19 win over the Coginchaug co-op.

Tyler Ouellette, Stafford co-op: Was 11-for-15 for 215 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-7 win over Cromwell/ Portland. Quinn Pavoz, Fairfield Ludlowe: Was 21-for-25 for 349 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-18 win over Bridgeport Central. Kai Prohaszka, Ridgefield: Ran for the first two touchdowns of the Tigers’ six in a 42-0 win at Chatham, N.J.

Andre Rentas, West Haven: Threw for three touchdowns as the Blue Devils got their first win, 27-23 over North Haven.

James Rinello, Greenwich: Threw three touchdown passes (on five pass attempts, all completions) and ran for a touchdown in a 50-6 win over Westhill.

Matt Silver, Wethersfield: Ran for 108 yards and four touchdowns and threw for 111 yards in a 33-8 win over Bristol Central.

GAMES TO WATCH FRIDAY

St. Joseph at Fairfield Prep, 6 p.m.: This one might’ve had a bit more gleam to it had the Jesuits pulled out their home loss to Newtown a few weeks ago or held off Xavier on Friday. No such luck, so can Fairfield Prep’s size and depth give the Cadets, coming off a week off, any fits?

Plainville at Tolland, 7 p.m.: There could be a mini-games-to-watch theme of “two 3-1 teams” this week. Here’s one of them. The visitors lost to No. 6 Bloomfield after a 3-0 start. The home team has three wins in a row after a loss at Berlin on opening night. Both had two pretty easy wins around a little tougher scheduling-alliance game.

Lyman Hall at Guilford, 7 p.m.: The thing about those 3-1 matchups: It’s early to be mathing, but there are 17 one- or no-loss teams in Class M (Lyman Hall sits 16th in points) and 11 in Class L (Guilford sits 10th). The win and those 30-and-counting bonus points will come in handy for the winners next month.

Daniel Hand at Norwalk, 7 p.m.: The No. 1 Tigers get back to work off their bye week at Norwalk, which has two wins and a tough one-point loss to Fairfield Ludlowe on its slate so far.

Masuk at Cheshire, 7 p.m.: Cheshire had last week off after its huge 24-12 win over Shelton. It returns against the Panthers, who might’ve joined the Rams in that mix of teams also receiving votes in the GameTimeCT poll if not for a one-point Week-2 loss to Windsor. On paper, pretty close.

New Fairfield at East Haven, 7 p.m.: If New Fairfield built any momentum with two wins going into its bye week to get back to .500, it’ll get a test at unbeaten East Haven, also coming off a week off after a big win over Guilford.

Norwich Free Academy at West Haven, 7 p.m.: The Westies finally got their first win Saturday after an 0-3 start, beating North Haven. NFA comes in off the bye week, 3-1.

Sheehan at Barlow, 7 p.m.: These teams may run the ball once or twice. Sheehan has scored at least 50 points in its four games, all wins. Barlow’s point totals have dropped each game, but the Falcons are 3-1.

SATURDAY

Berlin at Lewis Mills, noon: Lewis Mills is one of the surprises of the first half, 4-0 coming out of its bye week in its first season in the CCC. Well, here’s its biggest test yet, last year’s Class M finalist, which, even decimated by injuries, has wins over Tolland and Northwest Catholic and a close loss to wellregarded Killingly.

Bullard Havens at ATI, 2 p.m.: Sure reads like the Game of the Year in the CTC: The last two CTC teams without a loss, and the three one-loss teams all have their losses to one or the other of the Tigers or ATI. Bullard-Havens has won three in a row and nine of 10 meetings since Abbott Tech began play in 2009.
