Candlelight vigil honors domestic violence victims
TORRINGTON — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Susan B. Anthony Project will be holding its Annual Candlelight Vigil at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 at Coe Memorial Park in Torrington.
The vigil raises awareness of domestic violence, honors survivors and remembers those who have lost their lives. The vigil also provides an opportunity to give a voice to survivors and their families during its “Speak Out” portion.
At the vigil, Susan B. Anthony Project will recognize exceptional individuals and organizations in the community for their continuing support. This year, we recognize:
Renata Majka, is a domestic violence consultant at DCF. Renata is the liaison between families that are DCF engaged and SBAP clients by assisting and assuring the non offending parents and children are served in having safer options.
Patrice Hamilton, is an attorney with the CT Legal Services that works pro bono for our clients needing legal representation. Patrice is caring, and knowledgeable and an essential ally for our clients who have been victimized by domestic and sexual assault .
The Rhino Club, is a group of men who have generously contributed funds and large amounts of meats, produce, and canned and dried foods to our shelter consistently for the past three years.
Denise Fay, is a self employed personal trainer that works with our support group clients. No matter the age or fitness level of our clients, Denise understands the connection between exercising and mental health and wellbeing.
Karin Reetz, is an alternative therapist that helps clients keep calm, and heal through Tibetan Singing bowls and Reiki. Karin is committed to helping our clients though healing support group sessions regularly.
Sara Taft, is a creator of the most beautiful paper flowers. Since 2015, she donates her time and materials to create stunning centerpiece arrangements for our annual Authors Luncheon which raises money to aid our clients
The public is encouraged to attend this event.
