The Register Citizen (Torrington, CT)
Vote for Sharon Waagner
I am writing to urge Torrington residents to vote for Sharon Waagner for City Council on Nov. 5. For many years Sharon has been an active volunteer in Torrington. She currently serves on the Planning & Zoning Commission, on the Northwest Connecticut Economic Development Commission and on the board of the Torrington Library. She also volunteers with the Community Emergency Response Team and her Neighborhood Watch group.
While serving on the Arts and Culture Commission, she helped to bring Five Points Gallery to downtown. Sharon also works as communications director for Torrington Downtown Partners, a corporation that has purchased and restored nine historic buildings in downtown. She attends board and commission meetings, including City Council and Board of Public Safety. Sharon knows better than just about anyone how city government works and how it can be improved to serve residents.
As illustrated by the streetlight removal controversy, the Woodridge Lake sewer project approval, and the rushed approval of tax breaks to an outofstate real estate developer for affordable housing, it is clear the City Council needs new leaders like Sharon.
Sharon will be a voice for all residents, will make decisions that are in the best interests of Torrington, and will demand transparency and accountability in city government. She understands that the present city administration has failed at economic development and that failure is the reason why our Grand List remains stagnant and why our mill rate is the 7th highest in Connecticut.
Along with government transparency and accountability, Sharon will make economic development a priority. Torrington needs to move forward. With a vote for Sharon Waagner, Torrington can begin to do just that. On Nov. 5, please vote for Sharon Waagner for City Council.
