Parnassus String Quartet to give show
WOODBURY — The Friends of Woodbury Senior Community Center, Inc. is pleased to announce a free community concert by the Parnassus String Quartet (Yale School of Music) which will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Woodbury Senior Community Center.
The Parnassus String Quartet is made up of musicians representing the United States, Italy and South Korea. Individually, each member of the quartet has careers that have led them to stages all over the United States and the world. The current members of the Parnassus String Quartet have performed at Carnegie Hall, Severance Hall, Woolsey Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Edinburgh Castle and the Kennedy Center.
Violinist Beatrice Hsieh is a prizewinner of the Fischoff, WDAV, Oneppo, and CIM Competitions, among others, and has appeared as a young artist at the Perlman Music Program, Lucerne Festival Academy, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music, Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, and others.
Violinist Michael Ferri has won the 2016 Mika Hasler Young Artist Competition and the 2016 Shepherd School of Music Concerto Competition, and was fourth prize laureate at the Ima Hogg competition. He has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Shepherd School Symphony, and has performed on From the Top.
Cellist Bobae Lee has won many awards and prizes in competitions such as the International Joseph Haydn Society competition, the Guri Philharmonic competition, the Kukmin Daily News
Competition, and the International Brahms Gesellschaft Competition.
Violist Alex McLaughlin’s recent honors include being awarded the 2018 Robert L. Oppelt viola award from the Eastman School of Music, winning the Woodstock Symphony Orchestra’s “Woodstock and Beyond Competition”, and giving the North American premiere of French composer Nicolas Bacri’s Piccolo Concerto Notturno for viola solo and viola orchestra.
The free concert is funded through a grant from the WoodburyBethlehem Community Music Foundation, Inc. through the Thomaston Savings Bank, the Woman’s Club of Woodbury and music lover patrons.
