Songwriters back in New Milford

- STAFF REPORT

A Songwriters Series of concerts that launched in New Milford in 2018 returns Friday.

Organizers said in a press release the series offers a fresh, curatorled approach to live music with its format of improvisation and venue for artistic expression. At each concert, two singer/songwriters share the stage and trade songs throughout a twohour show. In between songs, founder and host Corey Durkin encourages the performers to share the stories behind their music and explain the details of their writing process.

“I’m so enthused by our community’s response to the first concerts,” Durkin, a native of New Milford, said. “I am so proud to say that we’ve created an intensely personal and intimate experience where we select the most talented and creative performers to grace our stage.”

While the Songwriters Series offers a place for families to gather to enjoy the music, the series is also a great idea for a date night, organizers said. “It can be tough to find really unique and exciting things to do in our state,” Durkin said. “Our team is incredibly excited about having created an environment where couples can come to hear the quality of

The first concert in the series took place April 13, 2018, at Hunt Hill Farm in New Milford, with all the proceeds going to the farm, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing opportunities and experiences to learn and to explore music, arts and food in the local Litchfield county community.

The November 8 concert will benefit Brave Enough to Fail, a student motivational program led by Wayne Winsley, an educator, author and talk show host from New Milford.

The concert series venue is 19 Main St., New Milford, formerly a bank building on the corner of Bank and Main streets.
