Weapon case continued against Ansonia man

NEW HAVEN — Jose Morales of Ansonia, who police have said is a suspect in the death of his girlfriend, Christine Holloway, had a separate case continued Wednesday in New Haven court.

Morales, 43, has been detained on two counts charging him with being a felon in possession of stun guns. The weapons allegedly were found during a search of his New Haven home Dec. 3 — the morning after Christine Holloway’s badly beaten body was found in her Myrtle Avenue home.

On Wednesday, Senior Assistant Public Defender Margaret Moreau said Morales wanted to see a copy of the search warrant police used to go through his home. The warrant is still sealed, according to the state, and thus unavailable.

Judge Melanie Cradle asked both parties to supply an update on the status of the warrant by Feb. 5.

Morales was Holloway’s boyfriend and father to 1-year-old Vanessa Morales, who has been missing for weeks. The mother and child last were seen with him the day after Thanksgiving. He also is a suspect in Vanessa’s disappearance, police have said.

Police Chief Andrew Cota III said last week that a warrant charging Morales with Holloway’s slaying was in the works, but needed to be reviewed by the state attorney’s office in Milford before it could move forward.

Lt. Patrick Lynch did not immediately respond to a request for an update Wednesday.

An Amber Alert for Vanessa Morales was issued Dec. 4. She has not been found.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has offered a $10,000 reward to anyone who can lead investigators to Vanessa or who turns her over to police.

FBI officials ask anyone with information about her whereabouts to call the FBI New Haven Hotline at 203-503-5555 or the Ansonia Police at 203735-1885.
