Torrington residents can get prescription discount cards
TORRINGTON — The ProAct Prescription Drug program is available to city residents, providing a discount card, free of charge, according to Mayor Elinor Carbone.
The discount card provides uninsured residents savings on various prescription medicines. Cards may be used by individuals who are uninsured, or who have prescriptions that may not be covered by their insurance program. Cards may not be used to discount prescription copayments or deductible charges.
The City of Torrington, through its membership with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, has already saved Torrington citizens more than $435,000 in prescription costs since joining CCM’s Discount Prescription Drug Card Program in January 2013, according to the mayor.
Cards are available in the Mayor’s office in Torrington City Hall, and may be printed online from CTRxDiscount Card.com
Anyone can participate regardless of age or income, and there is no cost to the municipality or to participating residents. The discount cards are widely accepted at all national chain pharmacies including CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Stop & Shop, Big Y, Market 32, and most local independent pharmacies.
Discounts are also offered on other medical services including vision, hearing and Lasik services.
“I’m pleased to see that many Torrington residents have been able to benefit from this cost savings program,” Carbone said, in a statement. “I want to remind people, especially during the flu season, that this program is available, and could certainly be a help to those who are in need of prescription cost assistance”
