The Travelers Championship is continuing to build a strong field for the 2020 tournament.

After securing Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson, the Travelers announced Patrick Cantlay on Tuesday. Cantlay is ranked sixth in the world, giving the tournament three of the top six players — McIlroy is No. 1, Thomas is No. 4.

And No. 45 Watson, a three-time winner in

Cromwell, is among the most popular players on the tour.

Cantlay has a compelling history at TPC River Highlands. As a 19-year-old amateur in 2011, he shot a 60 in the second round. That’s tied for the lowest score by an amateur in PGA Tour history.

“Patrick will always be remembered for what he did as an amateur here in 2011, but since turning professional he has won on the PGA Tour, played in the Presidents Cup and been a consistent presence on tournament leaderboards,” Travelers Championship Director Nathan Grube said in a statement. “We are happy to see him have continued success, and we are looking forward to seeing him back in Connecticut in June.”

Cantlay’s tour wins have come at the 2019 Memorial Tournament and at the 2018 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. His best finishes this year have been a second at the Shriners and a fourth at the

Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Cantlay was the topranked amateur in the world and was named the nation’s top college player while at UCLA. He represented the United States at the 2011 Walker Cup and was 3-2 at the 2019 Presidents Cup.

Since the start of the 2017 PGA Tour season, Cantlay has made the cut in 56 of 61 starts with 22 top-10 finishes.
