Lister will not return as Huskies’ assistant

- By Doug Bonjour

UConn women’s basketball assistant coach Jasmine Lister has resigned, the school announced Tuesday.

Lister had been on a leave of absence for personal reasons since Jan. 31.

“I’m happy to share that Jasmine is doing well and appreciates the kindness of UConn Nation during her time away from our program,” head coach Geno Auriemma said in a statement. “She has indicated that she will not return as an assistant coach and will instead pursue other professional opportunities.

“Jasmine is a great person and I’m sure the next chapter of her life will bring continued success. I wish her all my best.”

Lister was on her second season with the Huskies after stops as an assistant at Washington and DePaul. She had served as a graduate assistant in Storrs from 2014-16 following a playing career at Vanderbilt.

“I am grateful for my time spent with the UConn women’s basketball program,” Lister said. “I have learned a lot from Coach Auriemma, the coaching staff, and the student-athletes. They have

been supportive of me during my time away. Thank you to the entire UConn family, and I look forward to the future.”

Jamelle Elliott, a former player and assistant at UConn, returned to the bench in Lister’s absence. However, it has yet to be determined whether she will remain in that role next season.

Geno’s charity golf tournament postponed: Auriemma’s Fore the Kids Charity Golf Tournament has been postponed to Aug. 3 because of the coronavirus pandemic. It will remain at the Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford.
