CURBSIDE BOOKS: Cornwall Library will begin offering curbside pick up for books and movies starting May 11. Email book requests to director@cornwalllibrary.org. WALK IN HER SHOES: Susan B. Anthony Project’s 3rd annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser will be a virtual event this year from May 11 – 31. It was originally scheduled to take place on May 17 on the Green in Litchfield, and subsequently postponed. Register at www.sbaproject.org/walkamile beginning May 11; participants are encouraged to register by May 16. The official Walk Kick-Off and Opening Ceremony will be held May 17, followed by fundraising activities and challenges, culminating with a Finish Line Ceremony on May 31.

VIRUTAL MEMORIAL DAY: To protect the health of residents and visitors, Torrington’s Memorial Day parade has been canceled. Mayor Elinor Carbone and the Torrington Veterans Memorial Committee will develop a “virtual parade” slideshow, and a video veterans’ recognition ceremony, to be shared at torringtonct.org and with local media. All Torrington organizations are asked to share a photo of their group celebrating veterans, holding signs with a message, or showing decorations. Email the photos to vetactcom@yahoo.com by May 22. If a group photo isn’t possible, send one of your group from a previous parade. All the pictures will be included in a slide show at 9 a.m. May 25.

STORY TIME: Story time + book inspired project with Darcy, 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays through May 12, for ages 5-8, with the Scoville Memorial Library, Salisbury. Darcy Boynton will read a book and do a project inspired by that book — whether it is singing a song, learning a dance, or doing a simple craft. This class will be dynamic, relaxed, silly and fun. The center will provide 100 satchels of nonperishable food items to community members on a first come, first serve basis to help alleviate the stress of immediate food concerns. Residents in need can drive through or walk to the parking lot, and CHWC staff will give each family or individual a satchel of food to take home.

WATER MAIN FLUSHING: The Winsted Water Works will continue to flush water mains during the month of May in the following areas: Main St., South Main St., Torringford St., Moore Ave., Hinsdale Ave., Elm St., Holabird Ave., Walnut St., Oak St., Gilbert Ave., Stanton Ave., Waldron St., Florence St., Wallens St., Glendale Ave., Maloney Court, Colony Drive, North Main St., and all streets north of Main Street, for routine maintenance, between 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The flushing process may cause discolored water and reduction in pressure. The discoloration of water will be temporary. If the condition persists, call the Water Department at 860-379-4101.

SYMPOSIUM ON COVID-19: In a symposium to benefit charities on the front lines of the battle against the coronavirus, historian Douglas Brinkley, the New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof and bioethicist Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, a leading voice on devising national policies to battle the ongoing pandemic, will come together on May 17 to discuss how the pandemic will indelibly change the country and affect the daily life of every American. It is the opening event of Conversations On the Green’s eighth season and will be interactive, allowing viewers to participate and pose questions for the panelists. Tickets are $25 and require advance registration at conversationsonthegreen.com, where participants can leave a question for the panelists. On the day of the event, registrants will be sent a link to the live stream and a private password to the channel.
