Honig gets Democratic nod for 76th House District run
HARWINTON — Democrat Paul Honig was endorsed Monday by the 76th House District Democratic Convention, which met on Zoom.
Delegates from Burlington, Harwinton, Thomaston and Northfield attended the convention, at which Honig was endorsed by a unanimous vote, according to a statement.
“I accept the nomination for State Representative in the76th House District,” Honig said in the statement. “I ran for this seat in 2018 as an unknown political newcomer running against a 30-year incumbent. I knew that winning this seat would take more than one try, so here I am again.”
The election for the 76th House District will take place Nov. 3. In 2019, Honig ran against incumbent Republican John Piscopo, who has held the 76th District seat since 1989.
Honig’s 2018 platform included finding a longterm solution for the state’s fiscal problems, affordable health care, and protecting the environment, he said, but the recent spread of COVID-19 has required refocusing on the more immediate issues facing voters, such as the pandemic and accompanying economic crisis.
“It’s hard to know what things will be like, even a couple months from now, but what is clear is that our government is more important to us now than ever. People need our government to navigate this crisis compassionately, responsibly, and efficiently; guided by data and science to protect our health and our livelihoods,” said Honig.
