‘The Masters of Kent’ features local talent
KENT — The Kent Memorial Library’s benefit committee is launching the Masters of Kent Summer Series to celebrate and share some of the diverse and talented residents in town.
“This series is our way of thanking you for pitching in and donating to our matching gift campaign. We are offering six fabulous programs, all free, from some of our local luminaries, that showcase the variety of interesting and talented people we have here,” the committee said in a statement. “We hope you will join us as we celebrate the great town of Kent. We are fortunate to have so many generous supporters who have helped us raise the funds necessary to meet our budget for the year. Of course, we are always happy to receive any donations you feel compelled to share and we are so grateful to all the Friends of the Kent Memorial Library.
Events will be held online at kentmemoriallibrary.org
at 7 p.m., starting in July.
July 8: The Pope, the Shaykh, and a Rabbi go into the KML: What’s New in Jewish-Christian-Muslim Dialogue presented by Rabbi Burton Visotzky, who will report on the developments in dialogue among Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, and other major religious groups — and how dialogue and interfaith cooperation help to advance development and bring an end to violence and poverty.
July 15: “With Time Comes Appreciation” A Visit with actress Margo Martindale, Emmy-winning and Tony-nominated actress. In an interview with Theater Professor and author Ron Marasco, hear
about the life and love and learning that has, over time, made Margo Martindale both a world-class talent and a joy to bump into at the IGA.
July 22: The Ultimate African Safari: A Conversation with Dennis Pinto and Joy Phelan-Pinto, proprietors of award-winning Micato Safaris. They will take listeners on a journey
throughout the great game parks of East and Southern Africa, sharing their favorite insider safari places and experiences.
July 29: Song Stories (NOT Story Songs) with songwriter George Potts. From June of 1976, he served for many years as the bassist for his father-inlaw Dolph Traymon’s group, The Fife ’n Drum Trio.
Aug. 5: Building A Brand: How frank. food Came to Life presented by Frank Way
Before Kent Restaurant owner Frank Way opened frank. food company, he had a successful career as an executive creative director focusing primarily on brands and brand building. He cut his teeth at Calvin Klein’s in-house agency as an art director back when Mark Walburg was better known as Marky Mark and Kate Moss was a scrawny beauty from London. He went on to found his own agency, then spent time producing Martha Stewart’s TV show, and worked with TATTOO Brand Consulting.
Prior to opening his shop, Frank was an Executive Creative Director at Edelman, the world’s largest PR firm. Having always possessed a passion for entertaining and cooking, he opened frank. food company incorporating the skills he’d acquired throughout a career of maintaining, building and nurturing brands. He’s pretty pleased with the results.
Aug. 12: Advice to a Public Speaker (Which nowadays is everyone!) A Lecture/Discussion with Ron Marasco, Ph.D. Marasco is the author of five books including Notes to an Actor, which was named by the American Library Association “An Outstanding Academic Book of 2008.” Join him for a lively exploration of the Do’s and Don’t’s of being at your best in any presentation you ever give.
