Dranginis leaves selectman post, citing move
LITCHFIELD — Selectman Anne Dranginis resigned from the board Tuesday night, citing a move out of town.
Dranginis, a former appellate court judge, said that because she’s moving to a new home just over the town line in Torrington, she no longer can serve on the board.
“I’m not going anywhere — in fact I’ll be very close to town, but because I’ll be in Torrington I can’t be on the board,” she said.
Dranginis said she is moving to help her sister, who also lives in Torrington. The siblings plan to share a house together.
Dranginis said she regrets having to leave the board, since she was serving her first full term after being elected in November 2019.
She first was appointed to fill the seat of Democrat Selectman Diane Knox, who died in 2018. Before that, Dranginis was a three-term member of the Board of Finance.
“After I retired from the appellate court, I got involved in things in town,” she said.
Dranginis’ mother was a first-grade teacher at Litchfield Center School for most of her teaching career, Dranginis said, adding that she grew up in Goshen, but the family
had many friends in Litchfield.
Dranginis previously served on the Warner Theatre’s board of directors;
the advisory board of the Waterbury Symphony; the advisory boards of Litchfield Bancorp, Susan B. Anthony Project, Prime Time House; on the board of Community Partner in Action, Hartford; was chairman of the Connecticut
Bar Examining Committee; and was a member of the National Conference of Bar Examiners, Uniform Bar Exam Committee.
Dranginis said she’ll find other ways to serve Litchfield.
“I’ll always be a part of Litchfield,” she said. “It’s near and dear to my heart.”
The Democratic Town Committee will name a replacement for Dranginis to serve until the next municipal election in 2021.
