October features adventures in art, history

- STAFF REPORTS

WATERBURY — The Mattatuck Museum has scheduled a variety of programs for children, adults and families in October. Registration is required for most programs; go to www.mattmuseum.org/calendar

The Mattatuck Museum is hosting a virtual Art and Feminism Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon, led by museum archivist, Stephanie Crawford, bringing women artists who are missing or misrepresented onto the pages of Wikipedia, according to a statement.

Experience editing Wikipedia pages is not necessary to participate. A tutorial on how to edit, find sources, and some Wikitips will be conducted in the beginning of the event. Resources will be shared with the participants. This project will take place via Zoom and pre-registration is required. Register online at www.mattmuseum.org/calendar

Art and Feminism is an organization that works to add and edit articles about women artists on Wikipedia. Their mission reads: “When cis and trans women, non-binary people, people of color, and Indigenous communities are not represented in the writing and editing on the tenth-most-visited site in the world, information about people like us gets skewed and misrepresented. The stories get mistold. We lose out on real history. That’s why we’re here: to change it. …Since 2014, over 18,000 people at more than 1,260 events around the world have participated in our edit-a-thons, resulting in the creation and improvement of more than 84,000 articles on Wikipedia and sister projects.”
