Fire department, town committees collecting toys

TORRINGTON — The Torrington Fire Department is holding its annul Christmas for Children toy drive, with events scheduled on Saturday and local businesses accepting donations daily. The drive kicked off Nov. 27.

The Torrington Republican and Democratic Town Committees are also collecting toys and donations for local children through Dec. 15.

“Torrington Firefighte­rs Local 1567 are honored and proud to have the support of so many local businesses and residents year after year to help make the toy drive such a success,” members said in a statement. “This year is much different compared to previous years with the ongoing pandemic. We have a couple events coming up over the next few weeks to benefit the Christmas for Children Toy Drive. All CDC guide lines will be followed.”

Nardelli’s Grinder Shoppe, 1268 East Main Street in Torrington, is holding a toy drive, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. Every customer to bring a $10 unwrapped toy or make a

$10 donation will receive a $10 Nardelli’s gift card.

Berkshire Auto at 692 South Main St., Torrington, is collecting toys for the month of December.

County Line Nissan North at 522 Winsted Road, Torrington, is offering a $10 oil change with every toy or monetary donation of $20 or more.

Donations needed for the Christmas for Children Toy Drive include: gift cards and monetary donations, with checks made out to Christmas for Children. New, unwrapped toys and gifts for children, fron infant to age 18 are needed.

For teens, donations of bath and body sets (male and female), jewelry, socks, winter gloves, body sprays, art supplies. For ages 5 and up, donations of board games, LEGO sets, dinosaurs, art supplies, crafts, clothes, blankets and other items. Donations can be dropped off at Torrington Fire Headquarte­rs, 111 Water St.

Town Committee Drive

The Torrington Republican and Democratic Town Committees are also collecting donations with a competitio­n toy drive through Dec. 15. Both committees will collect unwrapped toys at Franklin Street Plaza from 5:30-8 p.m. Dec. 15. Toys can be dropped off at Friendly Hands Food Bank, 50 King St., Torrington.

Residents are asked to let volunteers know if you are donating on behalf of “Team Red” or “Team Blue.” For drop off hours, call the food

bank at 860-482-3338.
