WestConn students study local lakes
DANBURY — Western Connecticut State University graduate students, whose studies contribute to the management and conservation of freshwater natural resources across the region and are in the master’s degree program in Integrative Biological Diversity, took their studies from the classroom to the waters of Candlewood Lake, Bantam Lake and Lake Lillinonah.
The students collected samples and data for scientific investigation of the ecological balance and biodiversity of these aquatic ecosystems. Laurence Marsicano, adjunct professor of Biological and Environmental Sciences at WCSU, led the field studies as part of his Limnology course exploring the interrelationships of organisms found in these large regional lakes and their physical, chemical and biotic environments.
