Five Points Gallery to open three new exhibits

-

TORRINGTON — Five Points Gallery, at 33 Main St., will open three new exhibitions on March 5. Talya Baharal’s abstract paintings will be displayed in the East Gallery, Brigid Kennedy’s works in the West Gallery will be paintings on mental health, social justice and the pandemic and the TDP Gallery will feature photographs of home and family amidst the pandemic by emerging artist Erika Gabriela Santos. These free exhibits will run through April 10.

Baharal’s exhibition, Raw ink — Blue paint, invites the viewer to appreciate the unintended compositions that constitute everyday life, an announcement said. Many of these paintings were created during her time in quarantine, and her titles reflect various themes and feelings associated with the pandemic.

Kennedy ‘s exhibition, When Mercy Seasons Justice, addresses issues of mental health, immigration and pandemic challenges. Kennedy created this series on Dura-lar, a material used frequently by graphic designers. Former Five Points Launchpad artist, Santos, documents the fleeting and precious moments in life that are often taken for granted.

Five Points will be following the State of Connecticut's COVID-19 reopening guidelines. Due to Covid-19 Connecticut State Health and Safety Mandates, there will be no opening reception. Five Points will present a virtual Zoom Artist Talk on Friday, March 26, at 6 p.m., to be moderated by Jessica Fallis.

Gallery hours are Tuesday and Thursday 1-4 p.m. and Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 1-5 p.m., and by appointment (860-618-7222). The nonprofit gallery’s exhibitions and educational events are free and open to the public. All visitors inside the gallery are required to wear a mask and observe social distancing protocol.
