Litchfield Democrats choose new chairman
LITCHFIELD – The Litchfield Democratic Town Committee has a new chair as it prepares for the municipal elections in November. Matt Dyer will lead the local Democrats, replacing his predecessor, Alex Larson, who is moving out of town.
Dyer is an attorney with a practice based in Bristol. He ran in 2020 to represent the 66th district serving the towns of Litchfield, Morris, Warren, Bethlehem and Woodbury.

Library plans reading event, programs for children, teens
LITCHFIELD — Beginning March 1, the Oliver Wolcott Library has scheduled programs and events for children and teens. For more information, go to owllibrary.org and click on Programs & Events. To attend the events, click on the Zoom link at the time of the event or click on the Registration link.
All of Region 6 and Litchfield public school students are asked to join administration, teachers and staff in reading “Flying Lessons & Other Stories” edited by Ellen Oh and featuring stories by Kwame Alexander, Kelly J. Baptist, Soman Chainani, Matt de la Pena, Tim Federle, Grace Lin, Meg Medina, Walter Dean Myers, Tim Tingle, and Jacqueline Woodson.
Families with students in grades K-12 will all receive a copy of the book. “Our goal is for every family to enjoy the book together and engage in several fun activities connected to this diverse collection of stories. Families will receive bookmarks with discussion questions and reading-related activities. Additionally, various administration, teachers, staff, and community members will record each story being read aloud and release two stories a week for the duration of this exciting six-week program,” according to a statement from the library. “As a result of this collaboration between Region 6, Litchfield public schools, and area public libraries, we are able to make this community reading experience extra meaningful and enriching for families.”
Read Aloud Kits, Grades K – 6: In March, to supplement the community-wide school reading initiative, the library has created supplemental Book Bundles focused on the 10 authors featured in “Flying Lessons.” Each kit will contain a book bundle, with 2-3 books by the featured author, as well as discussion questions and fun activity prompts. Short Story Contest, Grades K-12: The Two Districts, One Book planning committee is hosting a short story contest with two winners in each grade band: K-3 students, 4-6 students, 7-8 students, and 7-12 students. Celebrate founder’s birthday at White Memorial
LITCHFIELD — The White Memorial Conservation Center is celebrating the 141st birthday of Alain White, born March 3, 1880, with an online auction that includes an abundance of treasures from new to lightly used to antique to wonderful services. Sponsor a child to go to Summer Camp; bid on a Meet and Greet with Shakespeare the Barred Owl and a personal Owl Prowl with Fran Zygmont followed by breakfast at Patty’s; a summer Champagne, Nibbles; and Bat Count with Gerri Griswold or a Bird Walk and Ice Cream Treat with Carrie Szwed; A Picnic and Music with Ian Campbell atop Apple Hill; or paddle the Bantam River in a four-person Old Town canoe.
Proceeds from the auction will help defray The Conservation Center’s operating expenses. The fundraising goal is $10,000. “Our income resources have been gravely affected Covid-19. DEEP now hiring for summer jobs
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection invites all to apply to join its seasonal workforce.
Seasonal positions with DEEP are available at various locations throughout the state. The majority of these positions are located within the State Parks Division at various state parks and forests.
