Spring class enrollment now open

- Staff reports

THOMASTON — Landmark Community Theatre is holding spring theater classes beginning March 9 for ages 8-18. Classes run though May 26.

A choreography class will be held for elementary students, while a playwriting class will be held for high school students. Classes will be remote via Zoom with the intention of meeting in person for the final few classes if COVID restrictions allow, according to a statement.

Inspired by the popular smart phone app, Tik Tok, LCT will hold a virtual performance class for ages 8 through 12 on Wednesday afternoons from 4-5 p.m. This class will use age-appropriate songs to teach short combinations of choreography that incorporate key dance and performance techniques. Classes will be held online once a week over the course of 12 weeks. No previous dance experience necessary. The course is taught by local performer Kennedy Morris, the 2019 Northwest Idol Showcase winner and was most recently on stage in LCT’s 2020 production of “A Christmas Carol.” Since 2017, she has taught choreography for the Thomaston Center School drama program and the LCT Youth Theatre summer camp.

For our older students, LCT will hold an Intro to Playwriting class on Tuesday evenings for ages 13 to 18. Classes will run for an hour from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for 12 weeks. Students will participate in activities both individually and in a group setting that explore their creative writing skills resulting in an original 5 minute play. Classes will be held online on a weekly basis with the hope to have their work performed by their peers for a live audience on the final day of class as long as COVID restrictions are met. No previous writing experience necessary. LCT Student Theatre alumni, Connor

Dunn is the instructor. Dunn is a graduate of Purchase College with a bachelor of arts in playwriting/ screenwriting. During his time there, his work was selected as part of the New Plays Now Festival and Make It Play Festival.

Registration is $120 per student per class. To register visit the LCT website www.landmarkcommunitytheatre.org or by calling our Box Office 860-2836250. There is a 25% sibling discount for families with multiple students enrolled.

LCT has taken the safety of its volunteers, students, performers, staff and patrons very seriously. Seating has been rearranged in the auditorium with every other row of seats removed keeping in compliance with the 6-foot radius. Other safety measures include running the air circulators from the HVAC to introduce constant fresh air to the house.

Additionally, several automatic hand sanitizing stations have been placed at every entrance/exit and automatic faucets have been purchased and will be installed prior to any in-person events. LCT will use an ionizing disinfecting sprayer between each event as well as wiping down doors and other touched surfaces. All persons will be contact screened upon entry which includes temperature screenings and answering questions. Face coverings or masks will be required. Guests will not be permitted to congregate outside their party.
