TORRINGTON — Mayor Elinor Carbone will face a Democratic challenger when the Republican incumbent seeks her fourth term in November, as town committees announced their slates for this fall’s elections.

Democrat Stephen Ivain recently announced his plans to run for mayor. At the Democrats’ caucus last week, the committee also named incumbents Paul Cavagnero and Sharon Waagner along with Brian Arnold and Keri Hoehne to run for City Council. Candidates for the Board of Education are Edward Corey, Ellen Hoehne and Travis Tanius.

For the Board of Public Safety, Democrats endorsed Glenn McLeod and Alexa Keener; for constable, candidates are Ruth Nadeau Dwyer, Rachel Harrell, Paul Farley and Shante Reynolds. George Craig is running for treasurer, and Vincent Basquin and Marjori Farley are running for the Board of Selectmen. The Democrats did not name a candidate for city clerk.

The Republican Town Committee last week endorsed its own slate of candidates for November. In addition to endorsing Carbone for mayor, other nominees are incumbents including Treasurer Dan Farley and City Clerk Carol Anderson. For City Council, incumbents Anne Ruwet, Drake Waldron and David Oliver were joined by newcomer Armand Maniccia. For the Board of Education, the committee endorsed incumbents John Kissko and Jessica Richardson, along with newcomer Susan DePretis

“The Republican Town Committee has once again endorsed a strong and experienced slate of candidates who will work tirelessly to earn the continued support of Torrington residents come November,” said committee Chairman Chris Beyus. “We have been honored and grateful for the widespread support that our candidates have received over the past several elections and look forward to gaining this support once again.”

The committee also endorsed incumbents Darlene Battle and Gregg Cogswell for the Board of Public Safety, incumbents Jim Steck and Tim Waldron for the Board of Selectmen; and Constables Rick Dalla Valle, Donna Isely, Ron Raymond Jr. and Bob Starr.
