Railroad Museum of New England to reopen with new rides

THOMASTON — The Railroad Museum of New England has announced its 2021 fall and winter schedule for the Naugatuck Railroad, featuring several new themed rides through the Naugatuck River Valley along with the return of all-time favorite rail excursions, according to a statement.

These rides feature family-friendly, as well as date night or an excursion with friends options.

Naugatuck Railroad rides are pulled by vintage diesel locomotive­s and allow riders to view the beautiful Naugatuck River Valley ablaze in fall colors or winter’s wonders as they enjoy different seasonally themed rides.

Naugatuck River Scenic Train: Family-friendly ride with a stop at Fascia’s Chocolate Factory

The Harvest Festival Express: Apple cider, fall themed backdrops, and games for the kids at the Thomaston Station, plus a train ride to Fascia’s Chocolate Factory.

The Autumn Colors Limited: Travel through the foliage of the Litchfield Hills with a stop at Fascia’s Chocolate Factory. Fridays and Saturdays in October

The Torrington Twilight Express: Travel into downtown Torrington on our historic train for a Saturday night in town with family and friends.

The Torrington Twilight Express: Beer Tasting (21+): Coming soon–details to follow (Limited time event)

The Chocolate Decadence Tour (21+): A journey featuring appetizers, chocolate and wine pairings highlighte­d by a tour of Fascia’s Chocolate Factory.

Litchfield Hills BBQ and Tequila Special (21+): On Thursday, Oct. 7th, passengers experience multiple tastings of high-quality tequila along with local barbecue. (Limited time event)

The Pumpkin Patch Train: A family-favorite autumn ride through the Upper Naugatuck Valley.

Santa Express: Passengers visit with Santa Claus and his elves. Each child also receives a special gift from Santa’s toy bag.

Northern Lights Limited: Leaving under the cover of nightfall, all the lights inside and outside the train are lit casting a cheerful, holiday glow. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also visit with all the good boys and girls.

“The excursions this fall and winter seasons offer a fun and memorable experience for everyone, from families to couples to friends, and showcase the beautiful landscape and wonderful features of the Naugatuck River Valley,” said John Cerreta, president of the RMNE. “We’ve designed these fun rail excursions to create lasting memories for young and old alike.”

All trains depart from the historic Thomaston Station located at 242 East Main Street, Thomaston. All ticket sales benefit the non-profit Railroad Museum of New England and help preserve railroad history.

The Naugatuck Railroad is the operationa­l branch of the Railroad Museum of New England (RMNE). The RMNE is a nonprofit educationa­l and historical organizati­on, founded in 1968. Its mission is to tell the story of the region’s railroad history through educationa­l exhibits and operation of scenic and historical train rides on the Naugatuck Railroad.
