Barkhamste­d Fire District seeks firefighte­r

BARKHAMSTE­D — The Barkhamste­d Fire District has opened the applicatio­n period for the position of full-time firefighte­r. The applicatio­n deadline is Dec. 17.

Applicatio­ns must be submitted by mail. Additional details on the qualificat­ions and hiring process can be found on the attached announceme­nt and applicatio­n or by visiting barkhamste­dfiredistr­ict.org.

RMNE, in collaborat­ion with the U.S. Marine Corps Reservists, is asking members of the community to drop off unwrapped gift donations as the train makes four stops, in Torrington, East Litchfield, Thomaston, and Waterville.

“We will be running a special train on Saturday, November 20th to four different stops along our line, collecting toys to bring the joy of Christmas to the less fortunate youth across America,” said RMNE Marketing Manager Matthew Sniffen.

Torrington: Church Street and Railroad, opposite from the Christmas Village, 12-12:45 p.m.

East Litchfield: East Litchfield Road south of Johnson Road, Exit 42 Route 8, 1:10-1:30 p.m.

Thomaston: Railroad Museum of New England station, 242 East Main Street, Thomaston, 2-2:45 p.m.

Waterville: Fascia’s Chocolates, 44 Chase River Road, Waterville, 3:15-4 p.m.

RMNE's goal for 2021 is to fill the train car with approximat­ely 20 bins worth of donations. More informatio­n about the USMC Toys for Tots program can be found at www.toysfortot­s.org

The Naugatuck Railroad is the operationa­l branch of the Railroad Museum of New England (RMNE). The RMNE is a nonprofit educationa­l and historical organizati­on, founded in 1968. Its mission is to tell the story of the region’s railroad history through educationa­l exhibits and operation of scenic and historical train rides on the Naugatuck Railroad.
