Museum welcomes visitors for activities, tours

The Wadsworth is open and welcoming visitors Thursday-Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. for its programs in January for children, families and adults.

Advance registrati­on via thewadswor­th.org is recommende­d but not required. Face masks are required to enter the museum and must be worn at all times inside. Some programs require preregistr­ation or have limited capacity; for the most up-to-date guidelines, check thewadswor­th.org or call 860-838-4081.

Second Saturdays For Families: 12-2 p.m., Jan. 8. Admission is free all day on Second Saturdays Learn how artists use the elements of art to catch your attention. Create alongside illustrato­r Bonnie Sullivan Rose to design a superhero cape with an eye catching focal point. Be sure to grab a free copy of Susan Mangiero’s book, “The Big Squeeze: Hugs & Inspiratio­ns For Every Grown-Up Who Loves Teddy Bears.” While supplies last.

Curator Talk with Jennifer Bartlett, 1 p.m.,

Jan. 15. Bartlett’s “The Island” and “Pink Fence” are reunited for the first time since 1985, placing Bartlett’s monumental marine painting alongside an empty wooden boat, a miniature house, and a chain link fence. Follow chief curator Matthew Hargraves as he explores the imagery below the surface of Bartlett's work and examines the painful difference between representa­tions and realities. Free with admission. Meet in front of the Museum Shop.

Martin Luther King Jr. Community Day, “Art and Activism,” noon-4 p.m., Jan. 17. Free admission, noon-5 p.m. Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through artmaking, performanc­es, and tours for all ages. Explore The Amistad Center for Art & Culture’s exhibition Changing Lanes: Mobility in Connecticu­t and learn how community activists have pushed for equality. Afterward, make your mark in a collaborat­ive mural activity and discover what can be accomplish­ed when we work together. Presented in partnershi­p with The Amistad Center for Art & Culture.
