David M. Hunt Library to take part in ‘Discover Falls Village’ weekend

FALLS VILLAGE — The David M. Hunt Library will hold an Artisan Crafts Market on the library’s lawn on July 9, and a Giant Tag Sale at the Center on Main, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. July 9-10.

Both events are part of the Discover Falls Village Weekend, highlighti­ng local businesses, cultural offerings, and local artisans, most within walking distance along the town center on Main Street.

The popular Falls Village Car & Motorcycle Show is set for July 10, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The David M. Hunt Library is located at 63 Main Street in Falls Village, CT.

Outside the Hunt Library July 9, a selection of artisans and artists, including members of the Salisbury Artisans Group, will offer their handcrafte­d wares and fine art.

Artisans that have confirmed their participat­ion include Karin Gerstel of Under Mountain Weavers; traditiona­l wooden furniture, including Windsor chairs, by Andrew Jack; hand-blown glass by Lucas Casey; custom woodworkin­g by Stefan Wolf; handcrafte­d boxes and canoes by Roger McKee; custom kitchen

knives by Jim Hurlburt; felted toys, bags, and sundries by Jennifer Markow; and totes by Sharon Hamilton. Fine art includes forged sculpture by Will Blass and fine art and jewelry by Katie Ross of Iron Geist Studios; paintings by Danielle Mailer; photograph­y by Sarah Blodgett; paintings and prints by Marilyn Hardy; and mixed media art by Lori Barker.

Indoors on the library’s ArtWall, Gail Jacobson’s exhibition of colored pencil drawings of flowers on black paper, “In the Night Garden,” will be on display with a special reception from 2-4 p.m.

At the Center on Main at 103 Main Street on Saturday and Sunday, The Friends of Hunt Library will hold their annual Giant Tag Sale featuring a selection of mint condition, antique, and gently used furniture, household wares, decorative items, jewelry and more. Another tag sale can be found at Ann and Greg Bidou’s at 85 Main Street.

Falls Village’s businesses are clustered around Town Hall and include the Falls Village Café, Furnace Art on Paper Archive, Casa Marcelo Interior Design, and Bunny Williams’ home goods store 100 Main. Around the corner on Railroad Street is The Falls Village Inn with an expansive outdoor dining patio. Across the street, the Falls Village-Canaan Historical Society will have its museum and exhibition­s open to the public on Sunday. The historical oneroom Beebe Hill Schoolhous­e will be open on Saturday and Sunday.

Popular businesses outside the town center include the newly opened John Robshaw Textiles at 5 Route 7, and Will Blass’s Iron Geist Studios at 50 Route 7. The Falls Village Flower Farm is located at 27 Kellogg Road.

AMusic Mountain, 225 Music Mountain Road, will feature New Eagle Jazz Band on July 9 at 7 p.m., and Penderecki String Quartet on July 10 at 3 p.m., with a preconcert talk at 1:30 p.m.. Both concerts are ticketed events. Visit MusicMount­ain.org for tickets and informatio­n.

On Sunday, the popular Falls Village Car & Motorcycle show will return with a huge variety of vehicles, vendors, food trucks, live music, and entertainm­ent. Visitor parking will not be available in the Village center, but visitors will be directed to park in designated parking locations and shuttle service will be available for those in need.
