WASHINGTON — New York Times bestselling novelist, memoirist, and host of the Family Secrets podcast, Dani Shapiro, will celebrate her highly anticipated new novel, Signal Fires, at 1 p.m. Oct. 16 at Community Table Restaurant in Washington.

The event is hosted by the Hickory Stick Bookshop in partnership with Community Table.

“With her first work of fiction in 15 years, Shapiro returns to the form that launched her career with a riveting, deeply felt novel that examines the ties that bind families together — and the secrets that can break them apart,” according to a statement. “One summer night in 1985, the lives of three teenagers are shattered by a horrific car crash, resulting in the death of a young woman. For the Wilf family, it will become the deepest kind of family secret, one so dangerous it can never be spoken, until the past comes hurtling back, setting in motion a chain of spellbinding events that will transform their family forever.”

Signa Fires has been named a Most Anticipated Book by the LA Times, Time Magazine, LitHub, BookPage, Library Journal, The Millions, and She Reads.

Shapirio is the author of five novels including Family History and Black & White, and the best-selling memoirs, Slow Motion, devotion, Hourglass and Inheritance. Her podcast, Family Secrets, has more than 25 million downloads and is now in its seventh season. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, The New Yorker, Vogue, and Time. She has taught at Columbia, Wesleyan, and New York University and is the co-founder of the Sirenland Writers’ Conference. She lives in Litchfield County.

This event is free and open to the public. A cash bar will be available. Those unable to attend may reserve signed copies of Shapiro’s books by calling The Hickory Stick Bookshop at 860-868 — 0525, or visit hickorystickbookshop.com
