Torrington High School to stage new play

- By Emily M. Olson

TORRINGTON — Torrington High School Student Theater is presenting some of its very own work this winter, with its production of “Sawyer Logan Is Doing Just Fine,” written and by senior Maia Wood, who co-directed alongside senior Lyahnize Rojas.

The production has been in the works for over a year, according to Elise Petro, a student involved in the production.

“Though it has been altered from its original version, this comedic and relatable story of a college student trying to find his way through juggling both writing the perfect musical and dealing with his friends’ problems and shenanigans will stick in your hearts,” Petro said.

The story: Sawyer Logan is just trying to survive this year of college unscathed and get his new musical off the ground. But with his roommates’ drama: Grey pining for Robin, Armani and Charlie’s constant bickering, and Elliot’s high expectations, it makes it hard to get any work done. In this small apartment in Amherst, Mass., six friends navigate lost love, hurt feelings, and their passion for their art, and have a couple panic attacks along the way. Sophomore and theater newcomer Reed Freiler performs the role Sawyer Logan. He will costar alongside his fellow actors. including junior Emily Tacuri Penaranda as the caring best friend of Sawyer and costume designer Elliot McLord; freshman Nate Pepler as the hopeless romantic and naive music major who is still hung on the coordinated dance major Robin Cooper, played by freshman Sophia Sedlak.

Senior Jozsef Herczeg plays the arrogant, selfassured acting major Armani Matthews, who is constantly picking fights with Charlie Arquette; the overworked direction and theater production major, played by junior Maxwell Pelizzari Hague. The cast also includes Asa, a young woman Grey meets on the bus, played by senior Alexandra Baez.

Stage managers and prop masters consist of juniors Elizabeth Campas-Hathaway and Lucas Whalen. Set design is by senior Max Vibert, with the help of crew members including sophomore Ethan Vibert, seniors Ryan Cilfone, Jillian Gombos, Asher Beauregard and Sabrina Toimil, with tech support by senior Jacob Apruzzese.

Costumes are by Costume Master and junior Freyja Harrel. Lights are by senior Rowan Villar, junior Leah Fosbrook and senior Sam Hass. Sound is by (junior) Elijah DeLeon.

“Sawyer Logan is Doing Just Fine” is produced by juniors Elise Petro and Leah Fosbrook.

Three shows will be performed Feb. 2-4 at 7 p.m. at the Torrington High School Little Theater.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and can be purchased at the door. Ticket reservations prior to show dates can be made by emailing leahfozy@gmail.com.
