Quinnipiac graduate accused of killing kids
HAMDEN — A Massachusetts nurse accused of strangling two of her three children to death Tuesday is an alumna of Quinnipiac University, according to a spokesperson for the institution.
The third child, a 7-monthold boy, was injured, Massachusetts police said. He was flown to a Boston hospital for treatment.
Lindsay Clancy, 32, of Duxbury, Mass., jumped out of a window after the killings Tuesday night but survived the fall, police said. She was hospitalized after she was taken into custody and is expected to face charges in connection with the deaths of daughter Dora Clancy,
5, and son Dawson Clancy, 3, and the assault of the baby, according
to the Associated Press. Clancy graduated from Quinnipiac
University in Hamden in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in biology, according to John Morgan, associate vice president for public relations. He declined to say anything about her academic record or involvement in campus life.
Duxbury is a coastal town about 30 miles south of Boston and 110 miles from the Connecticut border. Clancy worked in the labor and delivery ward at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston at the time of the alleged killings. Her employer issued a statement about the allegations to the Associated Press.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of this unthinkable tragedy,” the hospital said in the statement. “We extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by these devastating events.”
Duxbury police responded to a house Tuesday night for a report that a woman had fallen out of an open window, according to the AP. Officers discovered Dora and Dawson unconscious. Their bodies bore “obvious signs of trauma,” the AP reported. Both were pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said in a Tweet that his office had obtained a warrant for Clancy’s arrest charging her with two counts of homicide and three counts each of strangulation and assault and battery with a deadly weapon.
