Springfield City Council to vote on three annexations
In the first meeting of the new year, Springfield city councilors will hold a public hearing on a proposal to add a neurological rehab building to the PeaceHealth Riverbend hospital. They will hold public hearings and votes on three annexations, and they will vote on purchasing a property for affordable housing development
Florence city councilors will hear a presentation on affordable housing in Florence and tour an affordable housing apartment complex currently in development.

WORK SESSION
When: 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2
What: Springfield city councilors will discuss a proposal to modify the stormwater protection rules for part of the city. Then they will hear a presentation on new laws regarding public officials that go into effect in 2024.
REGULAR SESSION
When: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2
What: Springfield city council will hold four land use public hearings: The first is to rezone part of the PeaceHealth Riverbend hospital property from industrial to commercial so PeaceHealth can build a new physical and neurological rehabilitation facility. Councilors will not vote on this Tuesday.
Councilors will then hear comment and vote on three annexations: One for the industrial property used as a warehouse for Attune Foods, a Eugene-based organic foods subsidiary of Post. One for a vacant property next to Thurston Middle School where the Springfield Utility Board wants to build a water treatment plant. And one for a home and adjacent piece of
Kintzley Avenue.
Next councilors will hear public comment. Then they will vote on the mayor and councilor’s committee assignments for 2024. Lastly, councilors will vote on buying the vacant property at the intersection of 16th St and Main St in order to develop affordable housing there.
