In the lead up to the high school track and field state championsh­ips happening at Hayward Field this week, Eugene-area athletes have put up strong performanc­es.

This week’s Register-Guard Athlete of the Week nominees are:

● Owen Phillips, Sheldon boys track and field

● Alexis Leao, Sheldon girls track and field

● Tyler Raven, Thurston boys track and field

● Tabi Bierman, North Eugene girls track and field

● Bella Gubrud, Marist girls track and field

● Kaleb Moore, Junction City boys track and field

● Iris Frome, Elmira girls track and field

● Braedon Hazel, Pleasant Hill boys track and field

Owen Phillips,

Sheldon boys track and field

Sheldon senior Owen Phillips won three events at the 6A Southwest Conference Championsh­ips with personal records in the 100 meters (10.84), 200 (21.85) and long jump (21 feet, 8-1/4 inches). He ran anchor in the Irish’s 4x100 relay team that won with a time of 42.49.

Alexis Leao,

Sheldon girls track and field

Sheldon senior Alexis Leao won two events at the 6A SWC Championsh­ips with a personal record in the 200 meters (25.91) and season-best time in the 400 (59.00).

Tyler Raven,

Thurston boys track and field

Thurston junior Tyler Raven won two events at the 5A Midwestern League Championsh­ips with personal records in the 300 meter hurdles (40.89) and triple jump (44-9 3/4). He placed second with a PR in the 110 hurdles (15.47).

Tabi Bierman,

North Eugene girls track and field

North Eugene freshman Tabi Bierman ran a personal record to win the 200 meters (25.80) at the 5A MWL Championsh­ips. She also ran anchor in the Highlander­s winning 4x100 relay (49.86).

Bella Gubrud,

Marist girls track and field

Marist junior Bella Gubrud won two events at the 4A Sky-Em League Championsh­ips in the 100 meters (12.70) and recorded a PR in the 200 (26.56). She ran anchor in the Spartans 4x100 relay that won in 49.85 and was on Marist’s 4x400 relay (4:27.17) that placed second.

Kaleb Moore,

Junction City boys track and field

Junction City sophomore Kaleb Moore won two events in the 4A SEL Championsh­ips with a PR in the shot put (54-2) and discus (160-2.5) He placed second in javelin (147-4.5).

Iris Frome,

Elmira girls track and field

Elmira senior Iris Frome won the 800 meters with a PR of 2:19.14 at the 3A Special District 4 Championsh­ips. She ran the third leg of the Falcons 4x100 relay (51.55) that placed third and qualified for state.

Braedon Hazel,

Pleasant Hill boys track and field

Pleasant Hill senior Braedon Hazel won the javelin with a PR of 157-3 3/4 at the 3A Special District 4 Championsh­ips.
