Ellen Betts

Ellen Betts, 96, of North Wales, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Abington Health Lansdale Hospital. She was born September 17, 1918, in Weisel, PA, the daughter of the late Harvey and Sara Wimmer.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Raymond Betts; sisters: Edith Snyder, Anne Fluck, Ethel Truog; and brothers: Allen Wimmer, Earl Wimmer.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Mary Ellen Pompei of Quakertown, PA; Maureen Wimmer and husband Jim Bell of Millburn, NJ; Janet Trumbower of Canandaigu­a, NY; Paulette Fehl of Walnut Bottom, PA; Gerald Snyder of Bradenton, FL; Michael Wimmer of Perkasie, PA.

Ellen was a devoted wife, aunt and friend, loved by all who knew her. She was a member of St. Peter’s Tohickon United Church of Christ, Perkasie, PA, and worked for many years at Hunter Springs.

During World War II, from 1942 to 1945, Ellen traveled with her husband Ray, a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. She often described those years as a favorite period of her life.

In 1952, Ellen and Ray were among the founding members of Indian Valley Country Club in Telford, PA. Ellen was one of the club’s most ardent golfers, won several individual and team events over the years and, at the age of 84, had a holein-one on the club course. She was a Charter Member of Indian Valley and continued to play into her 90s.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015, at 12:30 PM at Indian Valley Country Club. A graveside service for the family will take place in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler, PA.
