Birds look to replace Logan on D Line
Extensive film review revealed there was one Eagles defensive player who had an outstanding game against the Redskins.
Unfortunately for the Birds, Bennie Logan almost certainly will sit out this week with a groin injury, leaving Beau Allen, the 6-3, 327-pound tackle with two starts, the next man up when they oppose the Vikings Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field (1 p.m., Channel 29).
“I’ve played a lot of snaps in this defense,” Allen said. “I’ve played a lot over the last three years and I’ve started games for this team, so it’s kind of nothing really new. It’s my first start this season, but not my first start in the NFL.”
Allen has six tackles, including one for a loss in five games. Logan had seven tackles with 2 sacks and two tackles for loss.
Rookie Destiny Vaeao (1 sack) also can expect extra snaps as the Eagles try to improve on a week in which they gave up 493 yards, including 230 on the ground in a 27-20 loss to the Redskins.
“The biggest thing was that Bennie Logan was probably the only guy who had a good game and he got hurt,” Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins said. “Everybody kind of took their turn either blowing an assignment or just making mistakes. And collectively, when you add it all up, it’s a lot of bad football. So it’s stuff that we can correct. I think the biggest thing is when you have a team running the ball like they did and they keep the ball with the time of possession and the amount of plays that you’re out there, all of a sudden you start getting tired and the effort gets low. And then it snowballs into something worse. The biggest thing is not letting that get out of control.”
The Eagles want to make life uncomfortable for Sam Bradford, who quarterbacked them last year. Bradford has six touchdowns, no interceptions and a 109.8 pass rating.
“He’s great at what he does, which is stand in the pocket and delivering accurate throws and protecting the ball,” Allen said. “We know that and he’s done a really good job of it. We know he’s not mobile. And we’re going to try to take advantage of that defensively.” •••
Logan was among several Eagles held out of practice Wednesday.
The others are cornerback Ron Brooks (calf), center Jason Kelce (foot) and defensive end Marcus Smith (groin).
Steve Wisniewski took the snaps at the pivot in place of Kelce, who has plantar fasciitis.
Meanwhile guard Allen Barbre (ankle), linebacker Mychal Kendricks (ribs) and wide receiver Jordan Matthews (knee) were limited at practice.
The good news is that cornerback Leodis McKelvin (hamstring), who was scratched Sunday, practiced fully for the Eagles.
Ditto safety Rodney McLeod (shoulder).
••• Tight end MyCole Pruitt (knee-ankle) and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd (knee), the product of Washington High in Philly, didn’t practice for the Vikings.
Limited at practice were wide receivers Stefon Diggs (groin), Jairus Wright (ankle) and Laquon Treadwell (thumb), and offensive tackle Jeremiah Sirles (knee).
Offensive linemen Brandon Fusco (concussion) and Alex Boone (knee), and linebacker Anthony Barr (ankle) were full participants.
