A North Wales man is on his way to state prison on numerous charges in connection with two domestic-related incidents involving his girlfriend.

Adam D. Kelly, 31, of the 400 block of East Montgomery Avenue, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to a total of 1 ½ to three years in a state correctional facility on charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and driving under suspension in connection with incidents that occurred between May 2015 and July 2016 at his home.

The sentence was imposed by Judge Garrett D. Page, who also ordered Kelly to have no contact with his onetime girlfriend.

Kelly pleaded guilty to a charge of recklessly endangering another

person in connection with the May 29, 2015, incident during which authorities alleged he assaulted his girlfriend during an argument that spilled outside his home. A neighbor who heard the woman screaming for help intervened and grabbed Kelly in a bear hug and held him until po- lice arrived, according to a criminal complaint.

During a December 2016 nonjury trial, Judge Page convicted Kelly of charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and driving under suspension in connection with a July 5, 2016, incident at Kelly’s residence. The judge acquitted Kelly of charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child during that trial.

According to a criminal complaint filed in connection with the second incident, North Wales police were dispatched to Kelly’s residence about 4:30 p.m. to investigate a report of an assault that had occurred earlier in the day. Police were met by Kelly’s girlfriend, who was visibly distraught and who claimed that Kelly had struck her and their 2-year-old daughter approximately two hours earlier.

The woman told police that she and Kelly had gotten into a verbal dispute that turned physical when Kelly hit her with a pillow while she was holding the child. Kelly pushed the girl aside and hit the woman’s head on a table multiple times while the little girl was yelling at Kelly to stop hitting her mother, according to the arrest affidavit.

During the altercation, the woman told police, a candle fell from a bookshelf and struck her new- born baby, who was seated in a nearby chair, according to the arrest affidavit.

Police said the woman had scratches on her left arm and shoulder, and a scrape on her shin. The 2-year-old girl had a small abrasion on her cheek, police alleged. The baby had no apparent injuries from the falling candle, according to court documents.

After the altercation, Kelly took the woman’s phone from her so she couldn’t call police. The woman said that she “was afraid for her life and the safety of her children when Kelly returned home,” according to the complaint.

Kelly returned to the residence a couple of hours later, at which point police arrived at the scene and took him into custody. Kelly admitted to leaving the residence after the argument and driving to a friend’s softball game before returning home.
