The North Wales Borough Police Department now has another officer sworn to protect and defend the residents of the borough.

New part-time officer Robert Seville was sworn in Tuesday night by Mayor Greg D’Angelo, who encouraged the new officer to keep in mind his top priority.

“The role of a police officer is not necessarily to catch the bad guy. It’s to protect the citizens, to keep us safe,” said D’Angelo. “The way you do that is by being proactive: you prevent the crime before it happens.”

Seville graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in 2004 and the Montgomery County Municipal Police Academy in 2010, according to police Chief Don Fantry. He worked as a part-time police officer in Telford Borough from 2012 to

2015, and then full time with the Pennridge Regional Police Department from 2015 to 2016 before leaving to join the private sector.

“Bob is joined here tonight by family and friends, to celebrate a fresh start in law enforcement,” Fantry said.

With Seville on board, the department now numbers four full-time officers, including the chief and four part-time, and one more full-time officer is expected to be hired

later this year, according to D’Angelo, who encouraged the new officer to learn as much as possible from the department’s veterans and keep his family in mind.

“The people that know and love you are going to be constantly worried about you. Sometimes we poohpooh that, ‘Don’t worry, I’m fine, I know what I’m doing.’ Don’t, because it’s a very real concern,” D’Angelo said.

“Appreciate that you have that behind you, and don’t take it for granted. On behalf of the citizens of North Wales Borough, thank you for signing on to keep us safe.”
