Jean Elizabeth Duddy of Hatfield
Jean Elizabeth Duddy, R.N., 91, of Hatfield, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late James A. Duddy, who passed away in 1996. Born June 23, 1926 in Scranton, PA she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Emma (nee Schmidt) Gibson.
Jean was a graduate of Benton High School in Benton, PA, a 1946 graduate of Keystone College, and received her R.N. from the West Side Hospital in Scranton, PA. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts in nursing from East Stroudsburg University, and her master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Jean had been a school nurse for 22 years in the North Penn School District prior to her retirement. She was a founding member of and a longtime parishioner of St. Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church in Hatfield. Jean was also a member of the North Penn Women’s Club, and several bridge clubs in the area. She had also been a swimming instructor for many years, and enjoyed participating in the sport of synchronized swimming, spending time with her family and friends, and a good Martini.
She is survived by her children, Diane Smith, of Port Allegany, PA, Lori Brozena (Marty), of Spinnerstown, PA, and Carol Prentiss (Bill), of Williamsburg, VA; her eight grandchildren; and her five great-grandchildren. Jean was also preceded in death by her sister, the late Claire Festa.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday morning, July 29, 2017 from 9:30-10:45 AM at St. Maria Goretti R.C. Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA 19440 where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jean’s name may be made to St. Maria Goretti R.C. Church at the above address, and would be deeply appreciated by her family.
